After the time and expense of installing a conservatory, you want to make sure it looks its best. But the very shape and angles of a conservatory roof mean cleaning it can be a challenging task. Keeping the conservatory roof clean and tidy outside and inside will help to make it a place in which you enjoy spending time. Here’s how to keep your conservatory roof looking great.
Toolkit
First, gather all the materials and equipment you need for the task. This includes: –
. A telescopic cleaner.
When cleaning your conservatory roof, it is usually safest to keep your feet firmly on the ground and a telescopic cleaner, with its soft bristled head and long pole, allows you to do just that.
. Bucket of warm soapy water.
You may want to use a special cleaning fluid specially designed for conservatories. Use a uPVC cleaning solution for the roof and washing up liquid for any glass panels.
. Squeegee.
This is ideal for cleaning glass panels on windows and roofs.
. Conservatory roof ladder.
If you cannot reach all parts of your conservatory roof using a telescopic cleaner, than you may need a conservatory ladder. These are specially designed for conservatory cleaning and maintenance purposes.
. A microfibre cloth.
Use this to avoid a streaky finish on glass surfaces.
Before cleaning a conservatory roof, make sure loose dirt and debris have been removed and there is no loose glass.
Cleaning a glass roof
Firstly, use clean water from a bucket or a garden hose to wash down the windows. Use a cloth or squeegee to apply your cleaning product and wipe in a downward motion. Rinse with clean water, letting water run from the top of the panels to take away dirt and soap. Take care when cleaning around glazing bars and avoid harsh chemicals or too much pressure.
Cleaning a uPVC roof
Great for insulating a conservatory, uPVC can scratch easily during cleaning, so care must be taken. Use a squeegee attachment and a telescopic cleaner handle to scrub away dirt gently and safely. Use a specific uPVC cleaning solution if possible to help protect the roof from the sun and the build-up of algae.
Cleaning a polycarbonate roof
Simply use a bucket of soapy water and a telescopic brush to get into those hard-to-reach places. Dip the sponge or telescopic brush into soapy water and scrub away dirt and grime. The telescopic brush can also be used to clean gutters and frames too.
Cleaning the inside of your roof
Dirt and dust can collect on the inside of your roof too. However, you will want to avoid splashing around copious amounts of water. Instead, climb up a safe, secure ladder, and reach up with a damp cloth to buff away any dust and grime. If you do not have a ladder, or don’t feel safe climbing it, use a telescopic brush with a dampened sponge attachment. Glass can be cleaned using a window spray.
Top tips when cleaning your conservatory roof:
. Conservatory roofs should ideally be deep cleaned one or two times a year.
. Don’t forget to clean beyond the roof- those side windows and frames will need a regular clean too.
. Use a moss treatment, or equal parts bleach and water, to break down algae and moss which can gather on your conservatory roof. A pressure washer could also prove useful here.
. Conservatories with self-cleaning glass may still require a clean with a squeegee or microfibre cloth.
. If using a ladder, always ensure the base is safe and secure and suitable footwear is worn.
